Dorothy was born in Calgary surrounded by the wonderful expanse of prairie and the Rocky Mountains. Her youthful artistic talents were expressed through dance, piano and acting - her love of drawing and painting developed later in life. Her mother loved the arts and gave her children opportunities to explore them while moving between Victoria, Vancouver and California. Dorothy continued her studies in music and dance with the Kay Armstrong School of Dance in Vancouver. She performed with Theatre Under the Stars and other local performances - all valuable experiences for any artist.
Dorothy moved to Toronto and attended the University of Toronto at the Conservatory of Music where piano became her passion. She completed studies, returned briefly to Vancouver then left on extended travels through Europe. There she was introduced to great galleries and artists, leaving a lasting impression on her.
